Q: What is a nickname?

A: A nickname is a unique name you use to identify yourself. You can choose your nickname during the Club VAIO registration. Please see the Registration help for more details. Your nickname is shown in the forum if you post something. Please note that nicknames are case sensitive!

Q: Can I change my nickname once I picked one?

A: At the moment, this is not yet possible, so choose your nickname with care.

top

Q: What is a password?

A: A password is a secret word you use together with your nickname to authenticate yourself. Your nickname and password are saved into our database. If you log in with your nickname, we will check if the password that was entered matches the password in the database for your nickname. This will prevent other users from logging in with your nickname unless they know your password. It is very important that you carefully choose a password that is not too easy to guess for others. Generally, a good password contains letters and numbers.

Q: Where can I find the serial number of my VAIO?

A: Your serial number is printed on the back of your VAIO.

top

Q: I registered my VAIO, but I did not click on the "Proceed to Club VAIO link". What are the consequences and how can I solve this?

A: This means you only registered your VAIO and you did not register on Club VAIO, so you cannot log in because you don't have a nickname yet. You can solve this by choosing a nickname. Follow all the steps in the Registration help.

Q: I entered my serial number in the "nickname & password retrieval" but I get the message that my serial number was not found in the database, how can I solve this?

A: This problem can have several causes:

  • You entered the wrong serial number. Please check the serial number of your VAIO and enter the correct one.
  • You registered your VAIO before 13/05/2004. We only have the serial numbers in our database of the users who registered after this date. Please follow all the steps described in the Registration help so that we have your serial number and you can retrieve your nickname and password.
  • You registered your VAIO, but you don't have a Club VAIO nickname yet. Please follow the steps in the "Registration help" to create your nickname.

Q: How can I see if I already have a nickname?

A: There are two ways to check this:

  1. You enter your serial number in the "nickname & password retrieval". If we did not find your serial number, you don't have a Club VAIO nickname yet. Please see the Registration help on how to create your nickname.
  2. In the login box, click on the registration link. Enter your first name, last name and serial number. Now you see the page with your personal details. You can change them if you want. After this, click on the button at the bottom of the screen. You see a page with your serial number and the link "Proceed to Club VAIO". If you click on this link, you will be taken to Club VAIO registration. If you are taken to the homepage, you already have a nickname. If you see the "Choose nickname" page, you don't have a Club VAIO nickname yet, and you can choose one.

Q: Can I register multiple Club VAIO nicknames?

A: No, this is not possible. If you registered your VAIO and you click on the "Proceed to Club VAIO" link, the system will detect if you already have a nickname. If so, you will be automatically taken to the Club VAIO home page.

Q: I don't have a VAIO but I want to be part of the community, can I register myself without buying a VAIO?

A: No, this is not possible.

top

Q: I don't have a VAIO, but in the past I had a Club VAIO nickname and I could post in the forum of the previous site. Can I still log in?

A: Yes you can. All the users that were part of the Club VAIO community before we launched our new website (on 13 May 2004) are still able to log in. Since the launch of the new website, only new users who own a VAIO can register themselves.

Q: Is it possible to change my personal details?

A: Your personal details are saved in our system. You can change your VAIO registration details and your Club VAIO user details.

  • You want to change your VAIO registration details. Click on the registration link in the login box on the top right corner of the Club VAIO website. Fill in your first name, last name and serial number. After you've done this, you will see all your personal details. Simply change the fields you want and click the button on the bottom of the page.
  • You want to change your Club VAIO details. You first have to log into Club VAIO. Once you are logged in, click on the "My Club VAIO" box on the top right corner of your screen. The box will now expand. In this box, you can click on the link "change my details".

Q: Do I need to enter my password every time I visit Club VAIO?

A: No, we made it really easy for you. In the login box on the top right corner of the Club VAIO website, you see a checkbox with the text "Keep me logged in". If you click on this checkbox, a cookie will be sent to your computer. The next time you visit the Club VAIO website, the system will detect the cookie and automatically log you in. Of course, if you remove your cookies, you'll have to log in again. The only disadvantage of this auto-login feature is that it's easier to forget your password.

Q: I have forgotten my nickname, what should I do now?

A: You can retrieve your nickname using our nickname and password retriever. An e-mail will be sent to you with your nickname, and the instructions on how to change your password. If you don't want to change your password, ignore the password instructions. (See the login help for more information.)

Q: I cannot remember my nickname, password nor e-mail address. What can I do?

A: You can retrieve your nickname and change your password using our nickname and password retriever. (See the login help for more information.)

top

Q: I received an e-mail with the instructions on how to change my password, but I did not request this?

A: It's possible that someone accidentally entered your nickname or email in the nickname and password retriever. Simply delete the e-mail, you don't have to change your password if you don't want to.

top

Q: I received an e-mail with the instructions on how to change my password, do I have to remember the temporary password that is mentioned in the e-mail?

A: No, as the name says, this is just a temporary password. This temporary password is quite complicated, to prevent others from changing your password.
